Missions et objectifs

Silver Lining Africa (SiLA) is a non-governmental organization that exists to give hope to the underprivileged.

Our beneficiaries are youths from all ten Regions of Cameroon, and we train them in the domains of leadership, peacebuilding, and entrepreneurship.

We seek to restore peace in conflict-affected areas through the funding of small startup among talented youths. We equally mobilize resources for donations in kinds and cash to orphanages. Our greatest desire is that someday we have great leaders, business tycoons, music stars, and philanthropists surface from among the underprivileged of the communities we serve.

We have so far impacted over 5000 young Cameroonians through our radio talk show, Inspiration for Aspiration on CBC Radio FM 97.2 Bamenda; seminars; trainings; and seed funding programs.

Our Objectives

As an association, we aim to:

  1. Help young people participate in development processes through the organisation of capacity building workshops, seminars, symposiums and competitions.
  2. Promote job creation and prevent rural exodus by assisting rural youths and orphans financially, materially and technically as they engage in agricultural exploits.
  3. Fund small start-ups, especially in the domain of farming.
  4. Fight poverty by promoting job creation through building the spirit of entrepreneurship in youths by means of workshops and business plan competitions.
  5. Acquaint youths with modern ICT tools to face the challenges of a globalizing digital world through seminars and trainings on ICT. This, in a guise to build self-reliance, creativity and productivity in youths.
  6. Promote the culture of living together through the organisation of outdoor competitions to bring young people together to seek ways to alleviate poverty.

Our current Project

In a developing country where everyone blindly craves to be employed by government, entrepreneurship shines the light on the less privileged. The ongoing crisis in the North West and South West Regions has so far displaced over 400,000 people (http s://www.hrw.org/world-report/2019/country-chapters/cameroon) and many find themselves in town. We designed a project to train and support 100 Internally Displaced People (IDPs) due to the crisis in the domain of farming. Our focus is tilted towards the raring of table birds and the cultivation of vegetables, giving that Silver Lining Africa recently acquired 100 hectares of forest land in Njole, Yoko Sub-division of the Mbam et Kim Division, Center Region of Cameroon.

All in all, 100 IDPs of both sexes will be identified in the towns and peripheries of the Centre and Littoral Regions. These will be people who will be willing to fully engage in farm entrepreneurship. These participants will first of all be trained on the cultivation of tomatoes, mushroom and huckleberry (njama njama), and the fattening of table birds. The training will last for a month. The 100 will then be organized in groups of ten. Each group (10) will be allocated 02 hectares of land. Teams will receive seedlings and fertilizer or 100 chicks and feed. From our studies, we found that 05 teams could receive seedlings and manure worth approximately 2,000,000FCFA (about $4000), while 05 other teams could collect chicks and feed approximated at 3,000,000FCFA (about $6000) for a start. The first segment will last for 3½ months maximum for the produce to be marketed. Teams will then have to reinvest their profits wisely and will use the land for 3 years.

The aim of this project is to teach the IDPs ‘how to fish’, while building peace by sharpening their skills in entrepreneurship, leadership and teambuilding, and engaging them in profitable activities.
